I know it's been a while...I am really busy with my projects for study.
You may know, that I'm going into the direction of Film and Animation (also illustration of course, but I would like to go into the moving image area).
So it's self-evident that when I see a really great film, I have to talk about it. And 'Hugo' IS great!
Who thought that one of the most famous directors of our time, Martin Scorsese, would ever produce a family movie? I didn't, especially cause I rather knew his mafia and gangster works, like 'Good Fellas' or 'Casino'.
Against this background it's just much more impressive that he created such a great declaration of love for the medium film - cause this is, what the film is. It picks the earliest films, produced by Georges Méliès, up and include them into the story of Brian Selznick, who wrote the novel.
The actors are impressive - also the special effects (which creates a really special, beautiful and primarly believable atmosphere). The music was composed by Howard Shore, who is known for the music of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy and is as well atmospheric.
I linked the trailer underneath but I have to say that 'Hugo' is NOT a children's film at all, like you could think while watching the trailer. It is a magical film for adults with nice scenes for children, but these are not the rule.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4jp69…In my opinion 'Hugo' (which is in Germany known under the title 'Hugo Cabret') is a perfect film and from its start to the end, clear cinematic magic.
Let me know your thoughts about the film and till then!
